Mountain Ash

The Parish of Mountain Ash was carved out of the Ancient Parish of Llanwonno and the more modern Parish of Aberdare, in the year 1863. When St. Margaret’s Church was built, Mountain Ash the Diocese of Llandaff, the Parish of Mountain Ash and Miskin was a completely different place than it is today. The act of worship and prayer have been offered here since 1863 and forms the heart and life blood of our vibrant community. St. Margaret’s welcomes everyone who wants to enjoy the riches of our heritage, its fellowship and the joy of the Christian Faith.

A particularly notable feature of St Margaret’s is the reredos, considered by some to be the most valuable single possession of the church. It is early English in character, made with Caen stone, alabaster and marble. It depicts Moses, Abraham and Isaac, God, St Peter and Aaron. It cost £250, when it was created in 1904.

St. Margaret’s reminds people that, although there are many changes happening all around us, that the Church is always here to welcome them and their families with open arms.
